Michael H. Staenberg

Michael’s formula for success for The Staenberg Group will be the same one that made THF Realty so successful: build premiere properties designed for long-term ownership and management by the company.

Build to Own
Michael’s success in the industry is largely credited to his entrepreneurial spirit and matched by his passion to succeed.

A visionary, Michael is able to imagine what has never been before, such as Missouri’s Chesterfield Commons, the country’s first big box retail power center with 2.5 million square feet of super stores, discounters, retail establishments, restaurants and banks. Relentless, he is able to find a way where others cannot, such as developing the Chesterfield flood plain that others had deemed unusable land.

Known for his endless energy and competitive edge, Staenberg pays meticulous attention to every detail on every project, including design, construction, leasing and management. His involvement verges on the extreme, from insisting upon energy-conserving white roofs to choosing planters that are attractive to shoppers. He understands that the simplest decisions – the width of the sidewalks or the trees in the parking lot -- can determine whether people enjoy the experience of coming to a shopping center.

Community Commitment
With Michael’s direction, The Staenberg Group not only provides residents with first-class shopping destinations, it provides the community with a good friend as well, generously contributing to local communities.

Dedication to the Environment
Decades ago, long before it was trendy to be “green,” and long before it was a global imperative, Michael became a steward of the environment. Conservation has always been an integral part of the planning and execution of his developments. For example, natural habitats are preserved wherever possible; nature and bike trails are added to developments; and even parking lots are constructed with filters so oil can be drained and recycled.

Michael is widely recognized and respected as a civic leader and philanthropist in St. Louis and in communities he serves.  He is a board member for many organizations serving health care, arts, education and Jewish life. He generously funds hundreds of programs personally and through the Staenberg Family Foundation, which was created in 2005. In May 2009, the Jewish Community Center opened the Staenberg Family Complex, an 150,000 square-foot state-of-the-art recreation and community facility.

Presently he serves on the board of directors or trustees of the following organizations:
  • Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis
  • Epstein Hebrew Academy (Honorary board member)
  • Foundation of Jewish Camping
  • Garbanzo Mediterranean Fresh
  • Granite City Food & Brewery
  • Jewish Community Center - Denver
  • Jewish Community Center - St. Louis (Lifetime board member, past chairman)
